New TV Series

1.  The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann 2019 Netflix - is a documentary on the disappearance of 3 year old Madeleine Beth McCann on May 3rd 2007..

The film gives a detailed account of the child's disappearance while on holiday with her family at the Ocean Club resort in Praia Da Luz Portugal .. and how on the evening of May 3rd 2007 her parents had left her and her twin siblings sleeping in the family's apartment and walked down to a restaurant by the pool to meet some friends and have dinner... approximately 100 yards from the apartment...

I remember this story vividly.. I remember while my hearts went out for them .. I was extremely saddened that they had chosen to leave her alone.. and how that recklessness on their part will surely haunt them for the rest of their life..  The film is a gripping account .. with interviews and real footage from the disappearance.. It is a very sad film.. that is truly heart breaking..

2.  The Act 2019 Hulu - is a true crime anthology drama.. The series is based on the real life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard (Joey King) and the murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard (Patricia Arquette).. Dee Dee was accused of abusing her daughter by fabricating her disabilities and illness (Munchausen syndrome)... ultimately leading to murder..

The series follows Gypsy and her mother once they had moved to Springfield Missouri.. and although the series has just started..  each episode is very interesting, thought provoking and holds your attention for start to finish... Loved Patricia Arquette in the series Escape at Dannemora and she shines in this series as well.. Truly Amazing The Act Trailer

3.  The Case Against Adnan Syed 2019 HBO  - the series is about the ongoing true crime murder case popularized by the podcast Serial. The film gives details of how Adnan Syed became a suspect in the murder and how DNA evidence has not backed up the conviction of Syed.. The film is truly captivating, interesting and thought provoking.. taking up the case details including that of interviews and evidence where the podcast left off..

4.   The Twilight Zone 2019 is a new sci-fi thriller drama anthology series based on the original 1959 television series that was created by Rod Sterling.. The new remake of the series has just started but from what I have seen it is reminiscent of the original series that I watched and loved when I was growing up..  It is interesting, suspenseful and intriguing.. Loved it..

5.   Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes 2019 Netflix  - is a documentary series that is divided into four 1 hour episodes that recounts over 100 hours of interviews and archived footage of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy.. as well as law enforcement, surviving victims.. I actually remember the spree of the killings and new coverage during that time .. and I can honestly say the Netflix series was enlightening.. In fact the series give a detailed account of the history of the serial killer .. and some interviews that were never previously released.. I found it to be insightful and interesting .. especially in proving that serial killers can be anyone.. even those you would least suspect..

New Releases Worth Watching

1.  The Dirt 2019 Netflix - is a biographical music drama that focuses on the rock band Motley Crue.. The film follows how Motley Crue came to be.. and starts by flashing back to 1973 when Frank Carlton Feranna Jr. walked away from his drunk mother after years of abuse.. moving then to LA in 1978.. In 1980 Frank eventually changes his name to Nikki Sixx and befriends a young drummer Tommy Lee.. revealing he is looking to form a new band.. Soon the pair are joined by Mick Mars who is called the old man of the group and suffering from ankylosing spondylitis (a form of arthritis, a painful inflammatory disease).. The trio than recruit a young Vince Neil as the lead vocalist after which choose the name Motley Crue for the band..

I have to say watching this film was like a poignant flashback.. since back in 1989 I can remember vividly going to the band's Dr Feelgood concert in Frankfurt Germany with my ex-husband..

The film recounts each of the band members stories with drugs, women, and the "over the top" no holds barred rock and roll lifestyles in which they led... I have to be honest..I found myself totally engrossed in the film from start to finish .. especially the heart breaking circumstances of Vince Neil's little girl... I actually remember hearing about the story back then but I was brought to tears while watching the film... Definitely a must see film for all rock enthusiasts

2.  Triple Frontier 2019 Netflix - is an action crime drama .. with an outstanding cast that includes Charlie Hunnam and Ben Affleck.. The film follows a group of former Special Operation soldiers who reunite in order to seize drug money from a South American crime lord.. I enjoyed watching the film.. although I would call the film somewhat predictable.. In the film the Delta Force friends decide to go to Columbia under the pretense of assisting with the war on drug crime.. the set up is planned out great.. however whatever can go wrong does.. The film is full of drama and action..

3.  Finding Steve McQueen 2019 - is a bank heist drama film.. The film features an exceptional cast and is based on the true story of a United California Bank robbery..  The film focuses on an unlikely gang of thieves that plan to steal thirty million of dollars from President Nixon's illegal political slush fund.. resulting in the biggest manhunt by the FBI.. Loved the film.. very entertaining.. great period details.. amazing cast of characters...

4.  How it ends 2018 Netflix -  is a action disaster apocalyptic thriller.. Will and Samantha are a young couple who are expecting their first child.. Will flies to visit Sam's parents in Chicago .. her disapproving father and him get into an argument.. The next day some kind of apocalyptic event happens and her father says that he will drive Will back to Seattle to get Samantha.. In the film there are earthquakes, fires.. disrupted power grids.. etc.. action ensues throughout the film..  In one part of the film .. a compass is spinning.. which may explain that the earth has flipped poles.. which would account for the earthquakes grid collapse and tsunami's.. etc..  In all honesty I really enjoyed the film and Will (Theo James) along with (Forest Whitaker) who played Sam's dad were great..

The movie highlights how one's survival instincts would kick in during such an event.. The film ultimately is much like "The Road" which in my opinion was a great apocalyptic thriller..

5.  Welcome to Marwen 2018 - is a drama fantasy film that is based on the 2010 documentary Marwencol by Jeff Malmberg.. The film follows the true story of Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) a man who after being physically assaulted struggles with PTSD and to ease his trauma.. creates a fictional village called Marwencol.. The film met with mixed reviews.. but after seeing the film.. I can honestly say it is not only very unique but interesting.. and thought provoking.. The story of Mark Hogancamp's attack and subsequent spiral after the trauma is truly heartbreaking.. but inspiring.. Movie Trailer

6.   On the Basis of Sex 2018 - is a biographical legal drama based on the life and early cases of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.. The film stars Felicity Jones as Ginsburg.. and is exceptional.. The film starts as Ruth Bader Ginsburg is just beginning Harvard Law School.. and shows early on at how she pushed the boundaries in order to rise to the top.. despite overwhelming doubt.. The film is inspiring, interesting and captivating from start to finish.. After all she has fought for the rights of women for years.. and her story is one that will be remembered long after she is gone..

Repost from my Changing my Life Kimberly Cummings

Just watched the TV show The Orville.. it was so good tonight..

I have loved the show since it first started in 2017 .. its a Fox comedy sci-fi series and always entertaining however tonight was definitely memorable..  Tonight the show was about the federation unearthing a time capsule from year 2015.. and in it they found several things including cigarettes.. and a cellphone.. On opening the cellphone Lieutenant Gordon Malloy (Scott Grimes) found videos and texts showing a young woman he wanted to get to know better..

However after having the simulator use her videos and data from the cellphone to replicate her life .. he falls for her .. long story short he eventually changes the data in the simulation and finds her different from her original replicated personality ..

This is where the entertaining changes to a life lesson.. "Humans are social animals..  When we are born we are a blank slate and over the course of our lives we expand and grow as a result of external stimuli.  Every single one of us is shaped by the totality of our relationships.. the people we love and the people we hate.. all make their mark and whether we like it or not it's who we are .. It's reality.. You can't just pick and choose which parts your past your want to change and be able to know how its all going to turn out.."

Amazing episode.. so good .. and an episode well worth watching

Dracula destroys the chapel and renounces his faith.. stabbing the chapel's stone cross and drinking the blood .. the film then jumps to 1897 where Dracula comes to meet a young woman Mina Harker (Winona Ryder) that he believes to be his wife reincarnated.. The movie is dramatic and intriguing..keeping me on the edge of my seat..

John Wick Chapter 2 2017 - Keanu Reeves returns as a hitman who goes on the run after a bounty is placed on his head. This movie is packed with even more action than the first and a much bigger dog.  Both films are outstanding and John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum is scheduled to be released in May 2019.

After which Evan finds out that his wife's art has been vandalized by them and drama ensues..

Nicole Kidman Films

I have always watched Nicole Kidman films for one reason or another.. but it wasn't until this year.. that I truly realized how outstanding she is as an actress.. with her exceptional performance in "Destroyer"..

films of Nicole's already reviewed in my blog..

1.  Destroyer 2018 - is a emotional crime drama which features a truly exceptional cast starring Nicole Kidman .. The film follows an LAPD officer (Kidman) who is assigned to go undercover in order to take out members of a gang .. however things don't go as planned and the film depicts at how intensely the horrific events of the past have taken a toll on her life.. and consumed by guilt .. The film first gripping scene .. plays a much bigger part in the film than one might think .. and overtime you see how Erin (Kidman) is driven to face her demons and get revenge for the death of her partner and father of her daughter..  I have to be honest.. Nicole Kidman was completely magnificent in this film.. I was completely engrossed from start to finish... Loved this movie.. A definite must see film..

2.  Aquaman 2018 - DC comics superhero based movie for me was an extremely interesting action flick. While I admittedly have no prior knowledge of comic storylines and have never been much of a fan of superhero films. I was totally engrossed in the story of a normal lighthouse man rescuing a princess of Atlantis during a storm and then them having a son with the ability to speak to animals and breathe under the sea.  The movie quickly progresses into a struggle between two sons rights to the throne.  I would describe this movie pure enjoyable action and a definite must see..

3.  Boy Erased 2018 - is a biographical drama with an outstanding dynamic cast.  To begin I will say this movie was extremely eye-opening.  The story follows Jared Eamons the son of Baptist parents who is forced take part in gay conversion therapy. While I will admit I had previously heard of the barbaric practice of conversion therapy used on homosexuals to supposedly change their sexual orientation.. I had only heard stories..

Boy Erased is the film adaptation of the autobiographical memoir of Garrard Conley who went through the very controversial and ineffective practice of conversion therapy..

The film Boy Erased touches on a contentious subject but one that I believe has to be discussed.  The practice of conversion therapy does more harm than good and for anyone struggling with their sexual orientation I completely understand where this could drive them to possibly do something extreme if they feel they are not being accepted by their religious upbringing or society including family.. I feel this film is a must see by everyone and possibly could be introduced into some churches as a way to open discussions on the topic.. For myself I believe in a loving God and a God that would never turn away anyone... Please watch this film and let me know if you agree

4.  The Upside 2019 - is a comedy drama that follows a recently paroled convict (Kevin Hart) who desperately needs a job and is hired by a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) who has seemingly lost his will to live.. The film focuses on the friendship between the pair, and insight into both of their lives.. it features fast cars, medicinal marijuana, parasailing and urinary catheters.. This movie normalizes disabilities.. demonstrates how impactful true friendship can be.. and is truly a sentimental heartwarming movie.. I really enjoyed every minute of this film..

The Upside was originally released in 2017 at the Toronto International Film Festival.. and is a remake of a French film titled The Intouchables which was inspired by the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo.. and his French Algerian caregiver Abdel Sellou..

5.  Eyes Wide Shut 1999 - is an erotic psychological thriller based on a 1926 Vienna story written by Arthur Schnitzler.  In the film which takes place in the New York City a married physician Bill Harford (Tom Cruise) after being told by his wife Alice (Nicole Kidman) of a contemplated affair becomes sexually aroused and embarks on attending a secret masked sex society event. Unfortunately that is where the story starts to spiral out of control. The reason that this film is basically a cult erotic thriller is more than likely based on the fact that in the 90s the subject matter (i.e. HIV transmission, sex clubs, voyeurism) of the movie was at that time somewhat startling.
_____________________________________________________________________________

6.  Cold Mountain 2003 - epic war drama film based on a book by the same name by Charles Frazier.. The film has an outstanding cast that includes Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee' Zellweger,  and Natalie Portman.. The film tells the story of a wounded Confederate deserter W.P. Inman (Law) at the end of the Civil War.. who is on his way home to be with the woman he loves.. Ada (Kidman) who he left behind when he went off to war to manage the farm.. This film tells an inspiring story of love and devotion during the Civil War..

7.  Dogville 2003 - is a live theatrical crime revenge thriller with an outstanding cast that includes Nicole Kidman and Lauren Bacall.. The story follows Grace Mulligan (Kidman) as a woman who while hiding from mobsters finds herself in the small mountain town of Dogville, Colorado.. and is provided a place to stay in return for labor..  Amazing film .. Liam Neeson Films

I have been a fan of Liam Neeson for a longtime.. Here are some of my favorite films of his..

films of his already reviewed in my blog..

1.  Cold Pursuit 2019 - is a action drama thriller film starring Liam Neeson.. The movie is a remake of a Norwegian vigilante film title In Order of Disappearance and both films were directed by Hans Moland... The film follows Nel Coxman (Liam Neeson) a snowplow driver when his wold comes crashing in after learning his son has died under mysterious circumstances.. As he searches for the truth he leaves a trail of revenge against a drug lord named Viking .. This film is what I would expect in a dramatic action Neeson film.. I loved it.. and was on the edge of my seat from start to finish..

After seeing Cold Pursuit .. I searched out the original Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance and it was actually great watching it and seeing what changes had been made for the US version..  The biggest changes in between the original film and the US film is when the mother comes in to confront her ex husband the drug lord and in the original he strikes her in the face.. it was shot very differently for the US film and just in case you wanted to know I loved the original movie as well..

2.  Widows 2018 - is a heist drama crime thriller.  The basic premise of the film is a group of women who lost their husbands in a heist gone wrong are threatened by the crime boss that lost loot in the botched deal.  After one of the women find a detailed plan of the next heist in a book by her husband she enlists the other women to complete the next heist in order to repay the debt to the crime boss. The movie than follows the women as they practice and execute the crime.  I do not want to give away too much of the movie but I will tell you the film has an outstanding cast including Liam Neeson, Viola Davis and Robert Duvall just to name a few.  The film also features a dramatic turn of events that will leave you stunned.  This movie is well worth watching and keeps your attention throughout. I enjoyed it very much and have no doubt you will too.

3.  Schindler's List 1993 - is a historical drama based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally.. The film follows Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) a German Bohemian businessman who save the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish Jewish refugees from the Holocaust by employing them in his factories during WWII..  This movie is graphic, brutally gut wrenching, horrific and yet hypnotizing stunning masterpiece.. I have to be honest I have seen this film several times over the years.. It truly paints a vivid picture of WWII history .. Please watch this movie..

4.  A Walk Among the Tombstones 2014 - is a drama action thriller based on a book by the same name by Lawrence Block.. The film stars Liam Neeson (one of my favorite actors) as retired Detective Matt Scudder who now is working as an unlicensed private detective..  In the movie.. Matt is approached by a drug trafficker whose wife has was kidnapped and brutally murdered..Scudder takes the case and soon discovers other similar cases.. Typical of Liam Neeson films this one has many twists and turns along the way.. including a homeless youth (named T.J.) that Matt befriends and seemingly takes under his wing..  Definitely a crime drama.. that I very much enjoyed and so will you..

5.  Taken movie franchise Taken -2008, Taken 2 -2012, Taken 3 -2015  The trilogy of Taken stars actor Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills a former CIA operative.  In the first installment his daughter is kidnapped on a holiday in France with her friend by sex traffickers and Bryan Mills uses his skills to track down his daughter's kidnappers.

Taken 2 installment begins when the Albanians take revenge on the CIA operative while in Istanbul and kidnap both him and his ex-wife for one of the deaths while saving his daughter when she was kidnapped two years earlier.

Taken 3 installment begins when his ex-wife is murdered and he finds her lifeless body in his apartment. While Bryan seeks to find his ex wife's murderer, he also has to evade the police (Forest Whitaker) who seeks to arrest him.

All three installments are packed with plenty of drama, action, well scripted performances and some of Liam Neeson's best work.

6.  Gangs of New York 2002 - is an epic period drama set in the slums of New York .. based on a book by the same name by Herbert Asbury.. The film focuses on the 1863 feud between the Catholics and Protestants which erupts into violence along with a group of Irish immigrants protesting on wages.. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz, Liam Neeson and many others.. This film is full of detail, inspiring and captivating.. I really enjoyed it.. After watching the film I did some research about the era..

One night he is visited by a monster in the form of a giant tree (Liam Neeson) who says he will come back and tell him three true stories.. but after he does he wants Conor to tell his story ..

This film is a dark yet beautiful and inspirational story.. The film deals with the grieving process and complex emotions... its poignant and insightful.. A film definitely worth watching

8.  Run All Night 2015 - is a action crime thriller..that follows a former Irish mob enforcer Jimmy (Liam Neeson) who goes on the run with his estranged son Mike after he witnesses a mafia shootout..

Tom Cruise Films

Okay so let me first say.. Tom Cruise is best known for his overwhelming success in action films.. especially the Mission Impossible franchise.. However I personally have loved him as an actor ever since Risky Business..

Here are some of my favorite Tom Cruise films..

films of his already reviewed in my blog..

1.  Top Gun 1986  (Top Gun Maverick is due to come out in 2020) - is an action drama based on a young naval aviator (Tom Cruise) who has the chance to train at the Navy's Miramar Fighter Weapons School .. where he meets and falls in love with an instructor (Kelly McGillis) .. I love everything about film.. the exceptional cast.. the soundtrack.. and the gut wrenching dramatic scenes..  The whole movie is outstanding..

Note: A sequel Top Gun Maverick with Tom Cruise is being made and scheduled to be released in June 26 2020 Trailer

2.  The Mummy 2017 - is an action adventure thriller.. The film follows a US soldier Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) who accidentally discovers an ancient tomb of a trapped Egyptian princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella).. This film is full of action, drama and adventure.. Ahmanet who was cursed and buried alive for killing her father and family is truly a formidable force.. add in all her scary zombie minions..  Wow.. This film takes you on a wild roller coaster ride.. Loved it..

3.  American Made released in 2017 as a biographical crime story based on Barry Seal (played by Tom Cruise) a former TWA pilot that became a drug smuggler for the Medellin Cartel during the 80s and who flew missions for the CIA. In the end Mr. Seal becomes an informant for the DEA to avoid jail time after being convicted on smuggling charges.  Needless to say there is endless action and some comedy throughout this film, as well as this movie is just plain entertaining.  After researching the story I learned that ultimately Mr. Seal was killed in front of his workplace by contract hit men hired by either the Ochoas or Pablo Escobar.  The movie version leaves out and distorts some of the real Barry Seal story but after researching more about Mr. Seal, I believe he may have witness much more violence than projected in the movie. Another note worth mentioning is Barry Seal is portrayed (by Dylan Bruno) in the 1st season of the Netflix series Narcos.

4.  Risky Business 1983 - is a romance comedy based on a young Joel Goodson (Tom Cruise) who falls for a sexy prostitute Lana (Rebecca De Mornay)..  In the film Joel quickly gets in way over his head when his parents leave him in charge while they are out of town and he becomes entangled in a confrontation with Lana's pimp..  A feel good, coming of age film..

6.  Legend 1985 - is another dark fantasy film that enchanted my whole family many years ago.  The story is based on a boy Jack (played by Tom Cruise) that learns Darkness and Goblins have been sent to kill unicorns, the magical creatures that guard the light.  The goblins take the horns to Darkness who is trying to destroy the light.  A girl Lily distracts Jack and after another unicorn is slain the world begins to change to winter. Fantasy abounds in this tale of light and eternal darkness as the pair of them rush to save the world from Darkness.

7.  Mission Impossible franchise
Mission Impossible 1 -1996, Mission Impossible 2 -2000, Mission Impossible 3 -2006, Mission Impossible 4 -2011 Ghost Protocol,  Mission Impossible 5 -2015 Rogue Nation, Mission Impossible  -2018 Fallout  - Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt a special agent in the IMF (Impossible Mission Force)  in all these action packed films and while I won't go into the dynamics of each film I will say they have a huge following.  I have watched the films but I have never been a true fan of either MI series or the James Bond 007 films..  Although I find both MI and OO7 films to be packed full of drama, espionage, and on the edge of your seat action. However with that being said not every movie is everyone's cup of tea and all of my movie picks are just based on my opinions and I urge everyone to judge these movies for yourself..

8.  Knight and Day 2010 - is an action comedy film starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.. The film follows June Havens (Diaz) who plays a classic car restorer who gets intertwined with an eccentric secret agent Roy Miller (Cruise) who is on the run from the CIA..

This film is truly enjoyable .. its filled with comedy, intense action and chemistry .. LOVED IT

9.  War of the Worlds 2005 - is a sci-fi action thriller loosely based on a book by the same name by H.G. Wells.. In the film a dock worker Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is forced to look after his kids.. where he struggles to build a relationship with them while protecting them.. as well as reunite them with their mother when aliens attack Earth..

This film is awesome in just about everyway.. Dakota Fanning plays one of his kids.. and she is amazing in this film.. There is plenty of suspense, emotions, action and visual effects.. LOVED IT

10.  Jerry Maguire 1996 - is a romantic comedy-sports drama.. starring Tom Cruise, Renee' Zellweger, and Cuba Gooding Jr.  The film follows Jerry Maguire (Cruise) who is a high octane sports agent .. that after drama ensues decides to open his own sports agency..  Dorothy Boyd is a single mother who decides to join him.. The both of them work tirelessly in hopes of making it big..  Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr) is one of their prospects and they work to get him a sweet sports contract..One of the films best known quotes.. is Tidwell and Maguire saying "Show me the Money".. another impactful quote comes from Zellweger when she says "You had me at Hello"

This movie is one of the best Cruise films.. It has everything.. drama, romance and gut wrenching displays of emotion..  You gotta love this movie for the sheer acting performances alone.. LOVE LOVE LOVED IT..

11.  Interview with the Vampire 1994 - gothic romantic thriller film ..based on a book by the same name by Anne Rice.. The film has an outstanding cast that includes Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst..

The film focuses on the relationship between Lestat (Cruise) and Louis (Pitt) beginning with Louis transformation to a vampire and chronicles their life together and ultimate turning of a ten year old girl Claudia (Dunst) into a vampire.. The narrative is given by Louis to a San Francisco writer (Slater) as some kind of cleansing of his past deeds..

The film is a classic and is truly captivating.. Definitely not the typical vampire film.. the secrets, twists and turns are intriguing and gripping.. LOVED IT

12.  Rain Man 1988 - is a comedy drama film .. The film tells the story of selfish egotistical young man Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) who discovers that his estranged father has died and left all his estate to his other son Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) who is an autistic savant.. Charlie wasn't even aware he had a elder brother.. and he definitely is unaware of his brothers mental challenges.. All of which he soon he soon undertakes..

This movie is funny, inspiring, charming and exceptional just like Raymond.. truly exceptional .. Definitely a must see film.. Enjoyable from start to finish.. Hoffman is amazing..

Tom Cruise has starred in numerous movies.. Here are a few other films definitely worth seeing..

Born on the Fourth of July - an epic political war drama film
A Few Good Men - an amazing legal drama film
Jack Reacher - action drama thriller film
The Outsiders - crime drama film
Collateral - action crime drama film

Richard Gere Films

I have to admit, I have had a crush on Richard Gere ever since I saw him in American Gigolo.. So when I was 20 years old.. and over the years he has aged amazingly.. in all honesty much better than I have.. I would give anything to meet him.. definitely one of my favorite male actors..

films of his already reviewed in my blog..

1.  American Gigolo 1980 - is a crime drama based on a high-end escort ( Richard Gere ) who after agreeing to "substitute" for another gigolo realizes that he is being targeted a murder he didn't commit and is now on the hook for an alibi considering his clients value their anonymity..  For me this movie is like a cult classic and is a very compelling subject matter shedding light on a dark subject ..

2.  An Officer and a Gentleman 1982 - is a romance drama based on a young United States Navy Officer cadet Zack Mayo (Richard Gere) who is attending Aviation Officer School .. During his time at school Zack has to overcome many challenges and eventually falls in love with a young woman named Paula (Debra Winger).. The story takes you on a roller coaster ride throughout the entire film.. However in the end it is a very heart warming story.. that I will always love.. a definite must see..

3.  Pretty Woman 1990 .. This movie is often thought of as one of the best updated "Cinderella type, love story films" starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.  The movie focuses on a struggling hooker who meets a very wealthy man who ends up offering her a large amount of money to be his exclusive companion for one week.  Ultimately the two see something far more enticing than they originally expected in one another and it comes down to whether there can be a fairytale ending. Most people can tell by the way the movie progresses how this will all work out in the end.. but it is one of those movies that draws you in and just flat-out makes you feel good.. A definite must see for anyone who believes in fairytale endings still can come true..

4.  Unfaithful 2002 - is an erotic drama thriller and based on woman (Diane Lane) who indulges in an erotic affair with a young man she meets.. Her husband (Richard Gere) finds out and ends up having a mental break.  This movie is full of drama and in the end breaks your heart showing just how painful an affair can be..
_____________________________________________________________________________

5.  Hachi: A Dog's Tale 2009 - is a drama film..  based on the true story of a faithful Akita Inu dog.. Hachiko .. In the film Professor Parker Wilson finds a lost puppy which had been freighted from Japan and accidentally left at the train station.. The professor takes the pup home planning to eventually search out the pup's intended destination and send him on his way.. However after not being able to do so .. He and the puppy begin to form a close bond..  and with time Parker and Hachi (dog) become inseparable .. When Parker goes to work Hachi always follows him to the train station and waits for him to return.. The bond and loyalty is profoundly admirable..
The film might seem like just a typical dog movie.. but it is not.. This film is so much more.. it is a story of unconditional love, loyalty and gut wrenching dedication.. Amazing film..  I cried .. and so will you when you see this film..

6.  Nights in Rodanthe 2008 - is a romantic drama film based on a book by the same name by Nicholas Sparks.. The film which was filmed in the seaside village of Rodanthe, Hatteras Island..

Adrienne decides to look after a friend's bed and breakfast in Rodanthe..where she becomes enchanted by the one and only guest for the weekend.. Julia Roberts Films

Here are some of my favorites

below are some previously mentioned in my blog..

2.  Ben is Back 2018 - is a drama film starring Lucas Hedges, the son of Peter Hedges who wrote and directed the film.. The film follows Holly (Julia Roberts) the mother of Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges) who tries to help her son who is a recovering addict after her son unexpectedly returns home on Christmas Eve from rehab.. Ben who is 19 years old only 77 days clean and is welcomed home by his mom who admittedly is totally consumed by her son's addiction.. Holly's maternal concerns are truly put to the test over the next 24 hours.. The movie is loosely based on Peter Hedges own real life experiences having dealt with addicts.. including sadly his mother's alcoholism...

I felt the movie.. was interesting, thought provoking and emotional .. I, myself lived with addicts and much like Holly had consistently tried to save them.. however addiction is intensely devastating to everyone involved.. unfortunately over the years I have had to watch addicts self destruct and die around me ..  I now understand that I could never have saved them from their demons ... because you can't save anyone that doesn't want to be saved..

3.  Wonder 2017 - Wonder is a dramatic comedy that revolves around a boy (Auggie) who was born with Treacher Collins syndrome (a rare and devastating facial deformity).  The story revolves around Auggie (previously home schooled and sheltered by his loving family) who is enrolled into fifth grade at a private school and now has to learn how to deal with social interaction.  This movie is heartbreaking but uplifting at the same time..  The cast did a superb job and as a parent the movie provides plenty of very teachable moments..

4.  Erin Brockovich - released in 2000 was a biographical drama based on the true story of Erin Brockovich (played by Julia Roberts in the movie) who after losing her own case in court starts working for her lawyer after he takes pity on her being broke and offers her a job.

Erin Brockovich eventually fights against the energy corporation PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric Company) in California back in 1993.  The case was based on contamination of drinking water with hexavalent chromium and affected the town of Hinkley.  Again this is a very gripping and disturbing story in history that causes you pause and review of what contamination on this scale can literally do to people's lives and for generations to come.  Although the story is very disheartening you do find yourself rooting for Erin Brockovich to continue fighting against this corporate giant to get justice for these people (ultimately there is no amount of money that can repay them for their health and loss but the settlement they finally reached did give them something at least)..

5.  Steel Magnolias 1989 .. another good life based tearjerker.. Steel Magnolias tells about the loving bond between a few women in a small Louisiana town.. The strong loving mother (Sally Field) of a young woman (Shelby played by Julia Roberts) who has battled Type 1 diabetes all her life.. and their loving friends and family characters surrounding them..

The movie instantly pulls you in with comedy and drama and focuses on the upcoming nuptials of Shelby.  Filled with love, laughter and twists and turns this movie highlights the lives of the full cast  and ultimately the traumatic loss this group of women will have to endure.

Something else worth mentioning is while the cast is filled with talent.. Shirley Maclaine is also one of the main characters in this movie as Terms of Endearment previously listed.

All I can say is this movie will break your heart and lift your soul .. a true GEM and worth watching by everyone.

6.  Stepmom 1998 - is a comedy drama .. The film focuses on a divorced couple Jackie (Susan Sarandon) and Luke Harrison (Ed Harris) who are struggling to help their kids be happy with their now two separate households.. Luke who is an attorney lives with his girlfriend Isabel Kelly (Julia Roberts) who is desperately trying to make his kids feel comfortable around her.. After Luke proposes to Isabel .. Jackie learns she is ill.. and actively sabotages Isabel's efforts to connect to the kids.. drama ensues and than reality ...

The film is truly entertaining from start to finish.. its funny, gut wrenching and thought provoking all at the same time.. I loved it.. a definite must see film

7.  Sleeping with the Enemy 1991 - is a romantic psychological thriller.. and based on a book by the same name by Nancy Price.. The film focuses on a woman (Julia Roberts) who plans and escapes from her physically and emotionally abusive husband .. and starts a quite new life in Iowa.. where she soon captures the interest of a college drama teacher...  Her abuser soon pieces together how she escaped.. and is hot on her trail..  The movie is dramatic, insightful and filled with suspense.. A real must see film.. and one that I absolutely love....

8.  Secret in Their Eyes 2015 - is a psychological crime thriller based on an Argentine book La pregunta de sus ojos by Eduardo Sacheri.. The film follows Jessica "Jess" Cobb (Julia Roberts) an investigator for the LA district attorney's office along with Ray, a counter-terrorism agent for the FBI who receives a call about an unknown female body that was found in a dumpster near a mosque that Ray has been investigating.. At the crime scene that both are devastated to discover that it is Jess's daughter.. that has been brutally raped and murdered..

The film is full of suspense from start to finish.. its intriguing, gripping and packed with twists and turns..  I really loved it.. a definite must see film..

Meryl Streep Films..

Here are some of my favorites

below are some previously mentioned in my blog..

1.  Deer Hunter 1978 - is an epic war drama about a trio of Russian American steelworkers whose life were forever changed after they fought in the Vietnam War..  The three soldiers were played in the film by Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken and John Savage.. John Cazale also played in this film as he was losing his battle with cancer.. Meryl Streep played a supporting role..

In 1968, Michael (DeNiro), Nick (Walken) and Steven (Savage) are lifelong friends and working class steelworkers in Pennsylvania who prepare to ship out overseas following Steven's wedding and one final hunting trip.. In Vietnam their dreams are forever shattered by the stark inhumanities of war.. even those who survive are haunted by the tragic haunting nightmarish events they experienced..

I have to be honest this film has forever haunted me.. I remember watching it when it first came out.. and how gut wrenching it was.. This film is one you will not soon forget.. as it is poignant, horrifying, traumatic and cruel beyond belief.. I have to be honest.. I remember very little of the Vietnam War as it ended when I was just 14 years of age.. That being said I do remember watching it on the news.. and of course the coverage of the protests..  However this classic film is truly gripping and one that everyone should see at least once..

2.  Silkwood 1983 ...Silkwood is one of those movies that from the moment I first watched touched my soul.. The movie is based on the true story of Karen Silkwood, a chemical technician and union activist that worked at Kerr-McGee Cimarron Fuel Fabrication Site Plant.  Karen's job was making plutonium pellets for nuclear reactor fuel rods that go into nuclear plants.  In the movie it details how the employees can and have in the past been exposed and upon doing so have to be decontaminated. During the time she worked at the facility the plant had experienced theft of plutonium by workers. Under suspicious circumstances both Karen Silkwood and her home was found to have been contaminated.  Karen testified about her concerns to the Atomic Energy Commission and later died in a mysterious car crash while attempting to meet with a New York journalist.

The movie Silkwood and it's cast did an exceptional job at bringing Karen Silkwood's dramatic story to life.. brought me to tears

3.  Julie and Julia 2009 - is a very funny comedy drama that embraces the life of Julia Child (Meryl Streep) through the early years of her culinary life with that of a struggling young New Yorker Julie Powell (Amy Adams) .. In the film Julie decides to start a blog to chronicle her aspiration of cooking all the recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking.. Truly a great film..I loved it..

Julie & Julia is based on the true story of Julie Powell Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen.. (later titled Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously) .. and Julia Child's autobiography.. My Life in France..

4.  The Devil Wears Prada 2006 - is a comedy drama based on a book by the same name by Lauren Weisberger.. In the film Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is a powerful "Diva" fashion magazine editor who hires an up-incoming journalist as a personal assistant .. "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) who is hoping to work her way up in publishing.. The film is blessed with an outstanding cast.. and is truly enjoyable from start to finish..

I really love this movie .. its funny, interesting and inspirational.. A definite must see for all women..

5.  The Bridges of Madison County 1995 - is a romantic drama based on a book by the same name by Robert James Walker.. The film focuses on an Italian war bride.. Francesca (Meryl Streep) who lives with her husband and two kids on an Iowa farm.. In 1965 she meets a photographer Robert (Clint Eastwood) and has a four day affair.. The encounter has a profound effect on both of their lives forever..   This film is deeply touching.. and truly everything you would want a romantic drama to be..

I love this movie and can't sing its praises enough.. The film is totally captivating.. and gut wrenching all at the same time..

6.  It's Complicated 2009 - is a romantic comedy film.. The film follows Jane (Meryl Streep) as a single mother of three and successful bakery owner who starts a secret affair with her ex husband.. Jake Adler (Alec Baldwin) an attorney who she divorced ten years ago..  However there is another man Adam (Steve Martin) who plays her architect.. that also has peaked her interest..

This movie is funny, charming and extremely enjoyable.. Love Love Loved it.. Definitely worth seeing..

Exceptional TV

After Life 2019 - on NETFLIX starring Ricky Gervais .. is a dark comedy series about a man who after his wife dies decides he may as well live however he wants..  .. a one time pleasant average man changes into an overly aggressive and crude person.. Just started watching this show.. and so much to say.. definitely a must see show that everyone from what I have read loves.. including MYSELF.. Love Love Love It..

This show is exceptional, heart-breaking dark humor at its best..  truly genius.. I love Ricky Gervais.. and I myself am dealing with depression and being alone isn't easy ..truly alone is horrible actually..  you can't get your mind to stop.. I get everything about this show.. I wish life was easier on everyone in this world..but unfortunately its not.. that is why they call it LIFE.. and pain is just a part of it.. Life isn't easy.. Sometimes you can't make sense of it all.. why people leave.. why sadness seems to swallow you .. sometimes it is rough.. but this show hopefully will touch people.. makes being sad okay.. and laughable.. puts a voice to pain.. definitely imaginative ..  :) Love it ..

Inspiring words from the "After Life"

If one could go back and change one thing that you didn't like.. You might lose something that the bad thing eventually took you to.. and you shouldn't regret anything..  or think well if you went back you might do this or do that..

You can't change the world, but you can change yourself..

Sorry for the additional shout out to this show.. but this show is worth it..
More Movies Worthy of Seeing..

1.  The Hate U Give 2018 - is a racially charged drama.. with an outstanding cast.. based on a book by the same name by Angie Thomas.. The film follows the fallout after a 16 year old female high school student Starr Carter (Amandia Stenberg) witnesses the police shooting of one of her friends Khalil (Algee Smith)..

The shooting takes place in a predominant black neighborhood and the police officer is white.. setting off immediate upheaval by the community.. Unfortunately Starr Carter as well as many other black people know all too well because of the times we live in.. that if confronted by officers.. you must put your hands up in clear sight and not make any sudden movements that might insight a possible racially motivated incident.. and in this case Khalil reaches in to get a hairbrush of the vehicle.. while the officer has told him to stay by his car.. and when the officer sees him pickup something in his hand .. he fires his weapon killing Khalil..

Khalil's unwarranted killing immediately becomes a national news story .. and although Starr's identity was kept secret at first.. the killing of this unarmed young black man weighs heavily on the black community..  This film is insightful, gut wrenching and full of drama.. I truly loved it and was engrossed in the film from start to finish.. Love, Love, Loved it..  Unfortunately what happens in this film rings all to true in the times we live in today.. Incidents such as this happen all across the country causing even more racial divide and unrest.. A definite must see film.. for the entire family.. this film is extremely thought provoking and a teaching moment for us all..

Truly Amazing..

From the train Rachel spots Megan kissing a stranger and after going to confront Megan wakes up in her bed covered with blood.. Megan disappears and Rachel is soon questioned by the police because she was seen in the area..  This film is packed with drama, gripping suspense .. as well as plenty of twists and turns.. The film definitely kept me on the edge of my seat..  Loved it.. Definitely a movie for sleuths .. well worth watching..

3.  The Circle 2017 - is a mystery drama thriller based on a book by the same name by Dave Eggers.. The film has a great cast which stars Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.. The film follows Mae Holland (Watson) who secures a position at The Circle (a high tech and social media company) .. The company soon introduces the real time program "SeeChange".. which uses small cameras placed everywhere to provide real time video of your life and experiences.. "TrueYou" another highly intrusive program is soon revealed to Mae as a program that is being used for not what it was intended .. which insights Mae to dwell more into the company .. and essentially learn the truth behind the madness..  This film is engrossing, suspense filled and intriguing.. I loved it.. After all social media "big brother so to speak" is bigger than ever in this world.. and just as social media can be used for "Good" .. there is much to say that in this day and age.. it can be also utilized for the wrong reasons..  This film is very thought provoking.. and well worth watching..

However upon learning despite his opposition Miguel has been targeted to work as a runner.. the boys flee and are rescued by Daniel (Van Damme) who helps them and in the process get revenge on the gang that preys on their barrio.. Enjoyable .. Definitely a film for any wrestling fan..   True Story

New TV Shows.. First Impression

1.  The Enemy Within 2019 - is a crime terrorism drama.. In the show Erin Shepherd (Jennifer Carpenter) is a CIA analyst that after a Russian master criminal named Mikhail Vassily Tal threatens her daughter Hannah in exchange for information on the agents that disarmed his recent bombs.. Erin chose her daughter over the lives of her fellow operatives.. Resulting in her being arrested by FBI agent Will Keaton and was sentenced to prison for being a traitor.. Three years later .. Tal has come out of hiding and struck again and the powers that be choose to bring Erin into their investigation.. Erin gives them conditions and provides them information to stop the attack.. After one of Tal's operatives is defeated .. Erin tells Keaton that Tal's allies have grown and have blended into society in order to fly under the radar until they receive orders to attack..

My first impression of this show is that is similar to that of Blacklist.. however for now the jury is out on this show.. after all Blacklist has a much better cast .. and Shepherd (Carpenter) is no Reddington (James Spader)..

 2.  The Umbrella Academy 2019 - is a Netflix superhero fantasy drama.. based on a collection of comics written by the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerald Way ..The show starts off by explaining on one day in 1989.. 43 infants were inexplicably born to random unconnected women who the day before showed no signs of pregnancy.. Seven of those children were bought and adopted by a wealthy industrialist and I might add weird man ..Sir Reginald Hargreeves (who created the Umbrella Academy) Preparing his "children" to save the world.. testing their skills, training them.. schooling them.. (even tattooing umbrellas on them)..Ultimately the children disband and go their separate ways..

The show actually starts years later when the six surviving children reunite upon hearing the news of Sir Hargreeves death.. They work together to solve how their father died.. but their personalities and abilities again pull them apart.. however on news of a impending apocalypse they realize they must try to stop it..

My first thoughts is that the series is extremely entertaining.. a group of young superhero like misfits with interesting abilities ..  and a dark undertone story.. what more could anyone want.. I predict this one is a big hit for Netflix..   The Trailer

3.  Whiskey Cavalier 2019 - is a crime action comedy drama .. The shows follows a tough but tender FBI agent named Will Chase (codename Whiskey Cavalier) who is assigned to work with CIA operative Frankie Trowbridge (codename Fiery Tribune).. Together with their team they of course are assigned to go on missions ..  Needless to say the show is filled with comedy antics, action and more antics.. Love the female CIA agent.. Reminds me weirdly of Moonlighting with Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd..

The show is funny and action packed.. However this show may not make the cut.. only time will tell..

4.  Good Girls 2018 (second season just started) - is a crime comedy drama on NBC.. The series follows three suburban Detroit mothers.. and two of them are sisters.. All three women are having a hard time making ends meet, as well as having their own family issues on top of that.. They ultimately decide to pull off a robbery at a supermarket where one of the sisters works.. only to discover that they have just gotten themselves in over their heads .. when they realize the money they stole was being laundered.. and now they owe him money.. I loved the first season last year.. the series is really funny .. and at times touching .. It also holds your attention from start to finish.. Loved the first season and the second season just started .. You got to see this show if you haven't already.. Love Love Love it.. A definite must see

5.  After Life 2019 - on NETFLIX starring Ricky Gervais .. is a dark comedy series about a man who after his wife dies decides he may as well live however he wants..  .. a one time pleasant average man changes into an overly aggressive and crude person..
