Meryl Streep Films..

Here are some of my favorites

below are some previously mentioned in my blog..

1.  Deer Hunter 1978 - is an epic war drama about a trio of Russian American steelworkers whose life were forever changed after they fought in the Vietnam War..  The three soldiers were played in the film by Robert DeNiro, Christopher Walken and John Savage.. John Cazale also played in this film as he was losing his battle with cancer.. Meryl Streep played a supporting role..

In 1968, Michael (DeNiro), Nick (Walken) and Steven (Savage) are lifelong friends and working class steelworkers in Pennsylvania who prepare to ship out overseas following Steven's wedding and one final hunting trip.. In Vietnam their dreams are forever shattered by the stark inhumanities of war.. even those who survive are haunted by the tragic haunting nightmarish events they experienced..

I have to be honest this film has forever haunted me.. I remember watching it when it first came out.. and how gut wrenching it was.. This film is one you will not soon forget.. as it is poignant, horrifying, traumatic and cruel beyond belief.. I have to be honest.. I remember very little of the Vietnam War as it ended when I was just 14 years of age.. That being said I do remember watching it on the news.. and of course the coverage of the protests..  However this classic film is truly gripping and one that everyone should see at least once..

2.  Silkwood 1983 ...Silkwood is one of those movies that from the moment I first watched touched my soul.. The movie is based on the true story of Karen Silkwood, a chemical technician and union activist that worked at Kerr-McGee Cimarron Fuel Fabrication Site Plant.  Karen's job was making plutonium pellets for nuclear reactor fuel rods that go into nuclear plants.  In the movie it details how the employees can and have in the past been exposed and upon doing so have to be decontaminated. During the time she worked at the facility the plant had experienced theft of plutonium by workers. Under suspicious circumstances both Karen Silkwood and her home was found to have been contaminated.  Karen testified about her concerns to the Atomic Energy Commission and later died in a mysterious car crash while attempting to meet with a New York journalist.

The movie Silkwood and it's cast did an exceptional job at bringing Karen Silkwood's dramatic story to life.. brought me to tears

3.  Julie and Julia 2009 - is a very funny comedy drama that embraces the life of Julia Child (Meryl Streep) through the early years of her culinary life with that of a struggling young New Yorker Julie Powell (Amy Adams) .. In the film Julie decides to start a blog to chronicle her aspiration of cooking all the recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking.. Truly a great film..I loved it..

Julie & Julia is based on the true story of Julie Powell Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen.. (later titled Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously) .. and Julia Child's autobiography.. My Life in France..

4.  The Devil Wears Prada 2006 - is a comedy drama based on a book by the same name by Lauren Weisberger.. In the film Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is a powerful "Diva" fashion magazine editor who hires an up-incoming journalist as a personal assistant .. "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) who is hoping to work her way up in publishing.. The film is blessed with an outstanding cast.. and is truly enjoyable from start to finish..

Francesca (Meryl Streep) who lives with her husband and two kids on an Iowa farm.. In 1965 she meets a photographer Robert (Clint Eastwood) and has a four day affair.. The encounter has a profound effect on both of their lives forever..   This film is deeply touching.. and truly everything you would want a romantic drama to be..

I love this movie and can't sing its praises enough.. The film is totally captivating.. and gut wrenching all at the same time..

6.  It's Complicated 2009 - is a romantic comedy film.. The film follows Jane (Meryl Streep) as a single mother of three and successful bakery owner who starts a secret affair with her ex husband.. Jake Adler (Alec Baldwin) an attorney who she divorced ten years ago..  However there is another man Adam (Steve Martin) who plays her architect.. that also has peaked her interest..

7.  Doubt 2008 - is a period drama.. The film takes place at a Roman Catholic elementary school named for St. Nicholas and led by Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep).. When another sister tells Aloysius that Father Flynn (Philip Hoffman) might be paying too much attention to one of the boys .. it leads her to further investigate Father Flynn..  The film tackles an intense subject in an intelligent way during an era when it was not spoken about .. its also compelling and thought provoking..

8.  One True Thing 1998 - is a drama film that tells the story of a woman Ellen Gulden () who is forced to put her life aside in order to care for her dying mother Kate (Meryl Streep) .. This movie is deeply emotional.. heart-breaking and inspirational.. I loved it..

9.  August: Osage County 2013 - is a comedy drama that features an outstanding cast that includes Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis and Julianne Nicholson.. as a totally dysfunctional family who reunites by coming home.. after their father disappears.. In the film their mother Violet (Streep) is suffering from oral cancer and is strong willed and addicted to narcotics.. the daughters are Ivy (Nicholson), Barbara (Roberts) and Karen (Lewis) ..  and after they all arrive.. drama quickly ensues.. This film is dysfunction at its best .. Streep and Roberts are exceptional ..

There are many other Meryl Streep films ..these were just some of my favorites.. Enjoy..
